P&H Edit: Bangkok – Chiang Mai

Thailand

This time the job was Thailand…But not for a “yet another beach photo shooting”… Chiang Mai – in the Thai jungle – and Bangkok were calling, two legendary Mandarin Oriental hotels…Often voted the world’s leading hotel by the travelling industry, the luxury hotel chain offers unique colonial charm… I couldn’t help whistling the Miss Marple theme. And not many a man can acclaim himself being awakened by his own snoring during a 90 minutes Spa treatment… No, we actually were really productive. But look for yourself…

The legendary tea room of the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok… truly special…

…but the Spa also offers a nice hideaway after a busy day in the city…

The Chao Phraya… the city’s lifeline… you cross the river in proper style on the hotels’ own ferries…

…the legendary Authors Lounge… left us deeply impressed… colonial charm at its best… and all the big names… they all have been here… Hemingway, Barbara Cartland, Lady Di, George Bush Senior, Mick Jagger and many, many other…

…Bangkok at night… a must: visit the Banyan-Tree lounge that’s situated on the 64th floor overlooking the rooftops of the town… cool jazz music… a 360° panorama view and outstanding cocktails… we couldn’t get enough of this fantastic scene…

…the issue that the shooting was made for was called the “golden issue”. Well, you could say we’ve made a big haul in the famous Wat Phra Kaeo palace, formerly the official residence of the kings of Siam… Taking photographs there wasn’t a piece of cake, though. Women are not allowed into the palace with uncovered shoulders and would get a shirt at the entrance… Scout around before each shot, and then, quickly: jacket off, watch the birdie, jacket on… may we be forgiven…

Thais enjoy street sport en masse… And Helena in the middle… at 35°C in the shadow and high humidity… Believe me; I wasn’t consumed with envy…

…Don’t miss a tuk-tuk ride… you see, it’s highly stable… and afterwards, you can say you’ve stared death in the face… :) Quote of a driver: “In Germany you have only one Schumacher… we have many…”

The Mandarin Oriental hotel in Chiang Mai in the Northern Thailand… a huge village in the style of the Lanna kingdom… we arrived at night… and had the sensation of being on the set of an Indiana Jones movie…

…the beauty of the nature is a breath-taking backdrop for the architecture, matched right down to the last detail to the Kingdom of Lanna style… Helena couldn’t resist – and had a matching dress made… Which probably is the true reason for that happy face…

Chiang Mai is located among the highest mountains of the jungle of Northern Thailand. Former working elephants now have found a safe new home in the Elephant Nature Park… and occasionally, during a jungle ride or a bamboo rafting tour you can even spot a leopard…

…”A beautiful backside is a vision of delight” (as we say in Germany)… Three of them? All the more…

So teenage… hardly sporting some bum fluff but getting cheeky all the way…

…night markets of Chiang Mai… an experience on its own… have a closer look… have a taste of everything – but wait, not necessarily of everything :)

…as mentioned above… it’s so Indiana Jones…
